Privacy Policy

This policy describes the information collected during a visit, why it is used, and the limited circumstances in which another party may receive it. By using Washburn County Criminal History, you agree to these practices.

Data You Give Us Directly

Search Queries

A name or place entered in a search tool is sent directly to the outside provider that operates that feature. The provider processes the query and supplies its result. We do not keep or log those search terms on our own systems.

Messages and Contact Submissions

Messages sent to us may be retained so we can answer. They remain within our organization unless disclosure is required by law.

Data We Gather Automatically

Our servers receive routine technical information when a page loads:

  • Page-view dates and times
  • Visited pages and the length of each visit
  • Device type and operating system
  • Browser name and version
  • Device IP address
  • Referring website, when available

Cookies and Analytics

Cookies are small device files that help measure traffic patterns, such as popular pages and exit points. Analytics providers combine that usage data for us. A browser can block cookies, although some features may then work differently.

What We Do With This Data

  • Routing a search to the selected outside service
  • Maintaining site speed and availability
  • Diagnosing and correcting technical faults
  • Understanding which resources visitors use
  • Displaying advertising that may reflect visitor interests

No Criminal-Record Data on File

We do not compile, store, or sell a database of personal criminal records. The content identifies official Washburn County and Wisconsin sources, including the Sheriff, Circuit Court, Wisconsin DOJ Crime Information Bureau, and Wisconsin Public Sex Offender Registry. Visitor data is not turned into a third-party criminal file or consumer report, and this site is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act.

Third-Party Search Partners

Outside companies operate the search boxes. Their privacy terms govern any submitted query, including how long they keep it and whether they share it. Review the provider's policy before entering information because we do not control those practices.

Links to Other Websites

Links may lead to the Washburn County Sheriff, Wisconsin courts, state agencies, legal resources, or outside search services. Once a visitor follows a link, the destination's privacy policy applies. Read it before providing personal information.

Advertising providers may use their own systems to measure activity across websites and select targeted ads.

Who Might See Your Data

Personal data is not sold. It may be available to:

  • Analytics providers that measure traffic and performance
  • Search providers that process a submitted query
  • Advertising networks serving material on our pages
  • Government or law-enforcement bodies acting under a valid legal demand

How We Protect Your Data

Standard safeguards protect information in our control. No internet system is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee that a breach will never occur.

Users Under 18

This resource is intended for adults, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If we learn that a minor supplied personal data, we will remove it.

Your Data Rights

Rights vary by residence and applicable law. Wisconsin's Public Records Law, Wis. Stat. §§ 19.31-19.39, governs records held by public agencies, while Wis. Stat. § 165.83 addresses DOJ criminal-identification functions. Those agency laws do not turn this private site into a government custodian. Subject to the law that applies, you may:

  • Request access to personal data we hold
  • Ask that inaccurate personal data be corrected
  • Seek deletion when the governing law allows it
  • Object to certain forms of processing

Updates to This Policy
